  1. Unless otherwise specified, P. pastoris strains were cultivated in 48-well plates containing 0.5% methanol minimal medium at 33 °C at 800 rpm. The total nitrogen and protein content of P. pastoris strains were determined when grown to the exponential phase. Data are average values and standard deviations of triplicate experiments. An asterisk indicates a significant difference with *P < 0.05, **P < 0.01, ***P < 0.001
