The presence of thiosulfate initiates the phosphorylation of thiosulfate response regulator ThsR and sensor ThsS, which activates the transcription of promoter PphsA. Over-expression of a fluorescent reporter gene under control of the promoter PphsA, the engineered probiotic E. coli strain harboring thiosulfate sensor demonstrated specific response and fluorescence in colon inflammation mouse model
