A schematic representation of the electroactive E. coli constructed in this research. The heterologously expressed MtrABC complex was assembled in the inner membrane, which allowed the input of electrons transferred from electron carriers. The electrons were delivered to menaquinone or other biological carriers inside the cell, and thus transformed into reducing power for biosynthesis reactions
