Utilization of a mixture of l-arabinose and d-glucose by the aerobically growing araR-deletion mutant (a) and its recombinant strain expressing pyruvate kinase (b). Both strains were grown aerobically to late log phase in A medium (containing 20 g/L of l-arabinose and 20 g/L of d-glucose) and then inoculated to an initial OD600 of 0.2 into mineral salt BT medium containing l-arabinose and d-glucose (15 g/L respectively) as the carbon sources. Cell growth (squares) and concentrations of l-arabinose (triangles) and d-glucose (circles) are indicated. Data are average ± standard deviation calculated from the results of triplicate individual experiments
