Stl1p is essential for cold/near-freeze and freezing tolerance. Relative survival (%) of the wt (circle) and the mutants defective on glycerol permease, stl1pΔ (square) and defective on the isoenzymes from glycerol-3P dehydrogenase gpd1Δgpd2Δ (triangle), was determined in YPD (close symbols) and YPGE (open symbols) medium, for cells kept at 4°C (A) or -20°C (B). * This 1st time point corresponds to 20 h incubation which was used for transport assays.
