  1. L. lactis MG1363 was grown overnight with(out) 2 μg/ml heme and with(out) aeration. Washed cells were analyzed for menaquinone content on HPLC. Menaquinone species with side-chain lengths varying from 2 to 10 (K2(2) - K2(10)) isoprenoid residues could be distinguished.
