Concerns about relevance of the PLS calibration model for glycerol

The PLS model used in this paper is shown capable of predicting glycerol concentrations during this one ferementation. There is no indication that this model will be able to accurately predict glycerol concentrations in subsequent fermentations. I am not familiar with the metabolic modeling aspect of this paper, so I do not understand if an inability to use the PLS model prospectively is a drawback or not.

I am working with a start up company, ASL Analytical, to develop a NIR based monitor to track the concentrations of glycerol and methanol in real-time during Pichia fermentations.
