Tightly regulated, alkali-induced expression of phytase from the PHO89 promoter. (A) Three independent strains, pP89-A, pP89-H, and pP89-J), containing an integrated pPHO89-phytase construct, were treated as in Fig. 2A, and the produced phytase activity was determined. Data are the mean ± SEM from 3 or 4 independent cultures for each clone. (B) Strain pP89-J was induced by resuspending cells in medium buffered at different pH values (from 7.4 to 8.2), which was readjusted (as appropriate) during the experiment. Data are the mean ± SEM from 2 or 3 independent cultures
