E. coli appA is expressed from different promoters and plasmids in C. necator H16 PHB-4. (A) AppA possesses classical phytase activity leading to the removal of one phosphate from plant derived phytic acid, and a phosphatase activity responsible for the release of up to four additional phosphate molecules.
