Funneling pathways for ortho-cleavage aromatic metabolism. The bolded box contains monoaromatic compounds often found in lignocellulosic hydrolysates. The three main funneling pathways for aromatic metabolism are the hydroxyquinol (blue), catechol (green), and phenol (red) pathways. Trichosporon oleaginosus can tolerate and metabolize many of the intermediates associated with the funneling pathways of aromatic compounds, and representative compounds were chosen for further characterization.
