Galactaric acid and biomass production at 0.5, 1, 10 and 250 L scale. T. reesei Δgar1 udh VTT D-161646 was provided d-galacturonic acid (0.5 L, [7]) or hydrolysed pectin (1, 10 and 250 L) as substrate with lactose as co-substrate. The approximate yield of galactaric acid on d-galacturonic acid and the overall carbon balance are also shown. Values for production from d-galacturonic acid at 0.5 L scale are mean ± sem for 4 independent cultivations. Error bars for biomass measurements at 1, 10 and 300 L scale are ±sem for duplicate measurements
