Schematic of the sublancin gene cluster. (a) The gene cluster of sublancin in B. subtilis 168 consists of the immunity protein gene sunI, precursor gene sunA, ABC–transporter gene sunT, two thiol–disulfide oxidoreductase genes bdbA and bdbB, and glycosyltransferase gene sunS. (b) Abr and AbhB binding sites are located upstream of the promoter of sunA. (c) A typical σA promoter is located upstream of sunA. (d) A palindromic sequence and a ribosome–binding site without promoter are located between sunA and sunT. (e) A hairpin structure is formed from the palindromic sequence after transcription.
