Characterization of recombinant Lactococcus lactis strains producing either anti-inflammatory molecules (IL-10 and TGF-β1) or protease inhibitors (Elafin and SLPI). Protein production and secretion were analyzed by Western blotting (panels A, B and C) and ELISA (panel D) 1 h after induction with 1 ng/ml of nisin, the samples were then harvested at late exponential phase (~OD600 = 0.8-1.0). Arrows indicate positions of mature proteins (eg. mSLPI panel A, human Elafin panel B, and mIL-10 panel C).
