Northern analysis of mRNA levels of XYL1 , XYL2 and XKS1 in C . sonorensis C169. RNA was isolated from cultures grown for 20 h on YNB medium containing 50 g l−1 D-glucose (G, white bars) or D-xylose (X, black bars). The left panel shows relative gene expression, with the expression level in cells growing on D-xylose = 1 of the hybridisation signals shown in the right panel. C. sonorensis XYL1, XYL2, XKS1 and PGK1 and S. cerevisiae ACT1 genes were used as probes. The hybridisation signals were normalized to total RNA.
