Xylitol yield ( Y xylitol ) for xylose fermentations by strain BP10001 depends on the specific rate of xylose uptake ( q xylose ). Data for qxylose and Yxylitol are from the first 48 h of substrate conversion in 5 independent fermentations using varying initial xylose concentrations of 10 g/L (this work; xylose phase in mixed glucose-xylose fermentation; Table 1), 15 g/L (unpublished results), 20 g/L ([8]), and 50 g/L (this work).
