  1. *The values are means ± standard deviations for three independent cultivations. The yield coefficients for biomass, lactate, formate and ethanol were obtained from plots of the amount of accumulated products against the amount of glucose consumed during the exponential phase. Pyruvate was determined at the end of runs and the yield coefficient was calculated on the basis of end concentrations.
