Comparison of batch (solid circle) and fed-batch (open square) cultures of S. brevicaulis LF580. Cultures were provided a final total of ~44 g L^-1 glucose and were grown in YMP medium supplemented with (NH₄)₂SO₄ (Table 1) and 30 g L^-1 marine salt, as described in the methods. Cultures were agitated at 400-600 rpm to maintain DOT ≥ 30%. Arrows indicate the time at which medium started to be fed to the fed-batch cultures. Error bars represent ± sem for n = 3 (batch) and n = 2 (fed-batch) cultures.
