2′-FL production in 10 liter scale glycerol-limited fed-batch fermentation of E. coli JM109 gwBC-F2. Glycerol-, nitrogen- and lactose-feeds started with induction, marked by a turquoise vertical line. The glycerol and nutrient feed rates were adjusted to maintain a growth rate of μ = 0.1 h^-1. Lactose feed rate was manually adjusted as described in the methods section. To allow a complete conversion of lactose into 2′-FL, the lactose feeding was stopped after a total process time of 30 hours.
