  1. Each single-sugar medium contained the specified sugar (D-(+)-glucose, D-(+)-xylose, or L-(+)-arabinose) at a concentration of 2.25 g/L. The three-sugar mixture contained all three sugars at the same concentration. The standard deviation of the each measurement was about 0.01 h-1.
